CAROLE BESTVATER, violinist, strives to share her joy of music with those around her. She is equally at home in classical and folk genres, maintaining a full schedule as a performer and educator. Carole relocated to St. John’s to pursue a Master’s Degree in Violin Performance with Dr. Nancy Dahn at Memorial University of Newfoundland, and loved it here so much that she decided to stay. Passionate about community, Carole founded the Strong Harbour Strings Program, an immersive after school music program based in the belief that communities can be strengthened through the learning and sharing of music. Carole is also on faculty of the Suzuki Talent Education Program, Assistant Principal Second of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and runs a private studio. In her performance life, you are just as likely to catch Carole playing Bluegrass, Irish, Newfoundland, Old Time or Appalachian folk music with a number of local bands as you are seeing her with perform with the Strong Harbour Strings Ensemble or the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.

While in Sweden in 2020, Carol Bestvater teamed up with Markus Räsänen to perform for the Cape St. Mary's Performance Series.

MARKUS RÄSÄNEN is an accordionist based in Järvsö, Sweden. The old fiddlers of Finland and Sweden intrigued Markus from the very beginning. The heavy bowings, the grounded connection of nordic folk music and all the swirly polskas created a firm foundation to stand on. He also paid great attention to transfer different bowing techniques onto the bellows. He has toured extensively in Europe, but also in Canada, USA and Russia.

DAVE PENNY + DAUNT LEE

For over twenty years, DAVE PENNY has been a steady presence on the local folk scene as an accordion player, singer, and composer of songs in a style that's all his own. His clever turns of phrase and wacky plots come from a lifelong fascination with comic ballads from Newfounalnd and the British Isles. As a solo performer or with the recitation group From Stage to Stage, he has played in various festivals and concerts around the province, PEI, New England, and the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia, Ontario. Dave's most recent album, All Turned Around, was nominated for a MusicNL and a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2017.

DAUNT LEE is a multi-instrumentalist and builder of guitars, mandolins and bouzoukis. Over the past twenty-five years he has built a reputation in the St. John's area as a fellow who'll try his hand at any instrument and quickly master it, and is a natural at arranging and accompanying songs and tunes. Dave and Daunt have been performing as a duo for about a year.
